Sustainability at Deutsche Bahn

Transporting more people and goods by rail is a key factor in achieving German and European climate protection goals. After all, according to TREMOD data from the Federal Environment Agency, electrified rail transport is already one of the most climate-friendly forms of mass transit today. Deutsche Bahn aims to further build on this competitive advantage and support its customers in achieving their own climate protection goals. To this end, DB is implementing numerous environmental, economic, and social measures and—in light of the most pressing challenges posed by climate change—is focusing on climate protection and climate resilience.

Climate Resilience at Deutsche Bahn

Deutsche Bahn is heavily impacted by the current and future consequences of climate change. For this reason, DB is actively preparing for an increase in extreme weather events and continues to develop its climate resilience management both strategically and operationally.

Climate Protection at Deutsche Bahn

Deutsche Bahn has set itself a net-zero climate protection target for 2040 and is driving decarbonization through four levers: renewable energy, phasing out diesel and advancing electrification, efficient energy use, and lower-emission construction materials.
