DB to increase its security presence during UEFA EURO 2024™

We are hard at work preparing for the European Football Championship. We have been cooperating closely with the German Federal Police and UEFA for months to prepare for the matches. All partners are in close contact regarding security for the European Championship and fan travel.

Nearly 6,000 German Federal Police agents and some 4,500 security staff will be on duty around the clock throughout Germany to keep DB's customers and employees safe. We are increasing our security presence at our stations and on our trains by around 20% (around 900 security staff) for the EURO. The ten train stations in the host cities and the trains to these venues will benefit in particular during the matches. All of our staff on patrol can be identified by their high-visibility EURO vests.

Deutsche Bahn is proud to be an active part of the European Championship at home in Germany and is expecting tens of thousands of additional passengers on trains to the venues. Ensuring the safety of our employees and passengers is our top priority. We spend more than EUR 200 million each year to ensure that our customers and employees can travel safely.

We opened our Rail Security Center in 2005 to monitor all security issues that are relevant to rail 24/7. We will be able to draw on this experience with security cooperation during the EURO. German Federal Police agents and DB employees monitor and assess events and reports together at the centre. DB's situation and operations centres keep an eye on the security situation in the regions around the clock and coordinate the deployment of security staff. DB is also in close contact with the police in the federal states, fire brigades and emergency services in order to coordinate and plan security measures. EURO 2024 GmbH is now also part of this cooperation for the European Championship. Although the tournament is a special event, we already have experience with tens of thousands of football fans taking our trains and passing through our stations every week during football season.
