Deutsche Bahn AG’s train toilets feature what is known as a pressure-flushing system. In this system, flushing water is introduced under pressure and combined with a closed vacuum system. Depending on the system used, the train restrooms consume an average of just under 0.75 liters of water per flush.
In addition, at select locations—such as the train stations in Kerpen-Horrem and Lutherstadt Wittenberg—DB uses collected rainwater instead of fresh water for flushing toilets and for cleaning purposes.
